The well-known story of Imam al-Rida (a) guaranteeing a gazelle is as follows: a hunter was chasing a gazelle in a desert. Imam al-Rida (a) happened to be there and when the gazelle saw Imam al-Rida (a), she took refuge to him. Imam al-Rida (a) offered some money to the hunter for releasing the gazelle, but the hunter did not accept the offer. At this time, the gazelle started speaking to the Imam (a) and told him that she had two fawns that were waiting for her and needed to be breastfed. She asked the Imam (a) to guarantee her to go and breastfeed her fawns and then return. The Imam (a) guaranteed her. The gazelle went to her fawns and returned soon. When the hunter saw that the gazelle fulfilled her promise and realized that the guarantor of the gazelle was Imam al-Rida (a), he changed his mind and released the gazelle.
