A Brief History of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria is a decades-long non-violent struggle that focuses on establishing an Islamic State and alternative government, having taken inspiration from the Iranian Revolution. Founded by Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, the movement, its leaders and activists still face hostility.
This book provides a thorough understanding of the movement’s development from the perspective of Zeenah Ibraheem covering many topics such as the Funtua Declaration, the Zaria Massacres of 2014 and 2015 and many experiences with the movement’s opposition. The book also discusses the works of Sheikh El-Zakzaky in the expansion and progression of the movement since its birth as well as overviewing his many imprisonments without charge and attacks against him, his family and members of the movement.
The author provides a first-hand account of her and her family’s struggles in fighting for truth and justice in a country rife with corruption and a government still under the influence of Western imperialism.
This retelling provides a historical narrative of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria from the perspective of one of its leaders and the challenges which have arisen when resisting an oppressive government.
